When the "preschooler" turns into the "kindergartener", their longing for exploration and self-guided investigation does not just disappear into thin air. Ideally, their drive to make meaning will continue to grow and the child will incorporate their ever growing abilities and skills, gaining deeper understanding of the world around them. Some of the intricate theories he/she has been crafting throughout the years might get disproven along the way, replaced by new ideas, or refined by new discoveries. Kindergarten gives space and time for these experiences to occur. It gives an abundance of sources for new questions, and a rich pool of tools to craft own answers. Kindergarten helps the child pack its mental backpack for an amazing journey throughout their school experience.
I am originally from Munich, Germany which is where I first discovered my passion for the Early Childhood Education field through volunteering in my community. I conducted after-school peer and play groups, as well as hiking, sailing, and nature excursions abroad for small groups of five to nine year-olds.
After receiving my Abitur diploma with an emphasis on ESL, I moved to Hanoi, Vietnam for three years. I spent my time in Asia as an Early Childhood Educator and ESL Instructor at a number of local preschools and elementary schools, deepening my understanding of the child development field through the lenses of other cultures' teaching philosophies. My journey led me to YES-Kids English Language Schools, where I was responsible for developmentally appropriate ESL curriculum design before starting the next chapter of my professional career here in the U.S.
I received my teaching certificate and Early Childhood Education AA degree from SRJC and am very excited to contribute my international background to our emerging Kindergarten program here at Fulton Community School.
