Fulton Community School & Farm

 The Farm

Our campus is a living classroom where children connect deeply with the land, the cycles of nature, and the responsibilities of care. Our Farm invites children into real, hands-on experiences with growing food, tending animals, and living in harmony with a thriving ecosystem.

From Seed to Seed: The Full Cycle of Growing

Children participate in the entire cycle of growing plants—from sowing seeds and watering seedlings, to harvesting vegetables and collecting seeds for future seasons. Through this process, they come to understand the natural rhythms of growth, change, and renewal.

Our garden includes:

  • Seasonal vegetables and fruits
  • A  flower area
  • A sensory garden space filled with herbs, textures, and smells to explore
  • Garden beds tended by the children themselves

These spaces are designed to engage the senses, spark curiosity, and provide opportunities for observation, experimentation, and wonder.

 Farm Animals & Community Stewardship

Our goats and chickens are cared for daily by the children, who rotate through morning and afternoon animal care routines. These chores include:

  • Feeding and watering the animals
  • Collecting eggs
  • Cleaning and refilling buckets
  • Composting leftover food scraps into a nourishing cycle of reuse

This fosters a sense of responsibility, empathy, and connection—both to living creatures and to the systems that sustain us.

Farm to Mouth

Whether tasting freshly picked strawberries, harvesting kale for snack time, or using herbs from the garden in our cooking, children experience the direct relationship between the land and their meals. Our farm-to-mouth approach helps children:

  • See where their food comes from
  • Appreciate the effort behind each bite
  • Make healthier, more conscious food choices

These connections are deepened when children help prepare their food, often using food they’ve helped grow or harvest.

 A Habitat for All Life

Our farm is home to more than just our animals and crops. Children share space with a rich diversity of wildlife, including frogs, lizards, pollinators, birds, and beneficial insects. This abundance reflects the health of our environment and helps children understand their role in protecting it.

By spending time in this outdoor classroom, children not only learn about biology, ecology, and agriculture—they experience belonging to something bigger than themselves.
