Transitional Kindergarten

The 4 & 5 Year old

When the "preschooler" moves to the "kindergartener", their longing for exploration and self-guided investigation does not just disappear into thin air.

Ideally, their drive to make meaning will continue to grow and the child will incorporate their ever growing abilities and skills, gaining deeper understanding of the world around them.

Some of the intricate theories they have been crafting throughout the years might get disproven along the way, replaced by new ideas, or refined by new discoveries.

Children need space and time for these experiences to occur, an abundance of sources for new questions, and a rich pool of tools to craft own answers.

The culminating year helps the child pack their mental backpack for an amazing journey throughout their school experience.

Cultivating Curiosity: Why Choose Fulton Community School & Farm for Transitional Kindergarten?

Choosing the right path for your child's educational journey is a big decision. As Transitional Kindergarten (TK) becomes available to more families, you might wonder what makes one program different from another. At Fulton Community School & Farm, we offer a unique, enriching TK experience that goes beyond the traditional classroom, nurturing your child's growth in a vibrant, engaging environment.

What Makes Fulton's TK Program Special?

  • A Living Classroom: Our farm isn't just a location; it's an active part of learning. Children connect deeply with nature through daily activities like gardening, caring for our goats and chickens, and exploring the thriving ecosystem around them.

  • Learning Through Doing: Inspired by Reggio Emilia and project-based learning, we believe children learn best through exploration and direct experiences. Whether designing a garden bed, investigating wildlife, engaging in studio projects, exploring family cultures, or collaborative storytelling, your child's curiosity leads the way.

  • Focus on the Whole Child: We nurture not just academic readiness but also social-emotional growth, critical thinking, and physical well-being. Teamwork, responsibility, and empathy are woven into everyday activities, from farm chores to collaborative projects.

  • Beyond the Farm: While our farm provides incredible learning opportunities, our curriculum is diverse. Children engage in rich indoor projects, art explorations, storytelling, and studies that broaden their horizons.

The Fulton Advantage: Benefits for Your TK Student

Choosing Fulton means choosing an environment designed to help your child thrive:

  • Develops Critical Thinking: Mental and physical challenges on the farm and in projects encourage creative problem-solving.
  • Boosts Social-Emotional Skills: Collaborative work and shared responsibilities naturally build teamwork, communication, and empathy.
  • Encourages Healthy Habits: Active outdoor time is plentiful, and participating in growing food fosters positive attitudes towards healthy eating.
  • Fosters a Love of Learning: By following their interests, children develop intrinsic motivation and a curiosity that lasts a lifetime.
  • Builds Real-World Connections: Children gain a tangible understanding of nature, food systems, and sustainability.
  • Individualized Attention: With a low 1-to-8 adult-to-child ratio, our teachers can provide personalized support and build strong relationships.

Considering Your Options?

While public school TK offers a valuable, no-cost option , Fulton Community School & Farm provides a unique investment in your child's early development. We offer an integrated, experiential approach in a nurturing community setting that differs from the structure of many traditional programs. Our focus is on fostering deep understanding and essential life skills through authentic, hands-on experiences in a rich learning environment that blends nature, farm life, and diverse creative projects.
